Service

Over the years I have made sure to give back to the community through many types of service activities. My recorded amount of service hours doesn't truly express how much I have assisted within my community.  Service related activities I have done include the following:

  • Assisted teachers in setting up their class rooms in the summer

  • Started a neighborhood canned food drive to benefit Carroll County Food Sunday

  • Coached a fifth grade volleyball team for Freedom Volleyball

  • Coached at Century High School's summer girl's basketball camp

  • Coached at the Liberty Christian Volleyball Camp

  • Volunteered at a car wash to benefit the Humane Society

  • Volunteered at the Westminster Church Soup Kitchen

  • Organized a Dig Pink volleyball game

Dig Pink Volleyball Game

This is the service event that I take the most pride in. Dig Pink is a well known event that takes place during a volleyball game to raise money for breast cancer. I organized the event and had my team help host it on October 14, 2014 at our home volleyball match. My volleyball team made cookies and brownies to be sold in a bake sale before the game. Spirit items such as pom poms and stickers were also sold. I also invited local breast cancer survivors to attend the game. They were all recognized before the game with a special ceremony. All of the proceeds made at the game went to a foundation called Side Out. Side Out donates all the proceeds from the event towards breast cancer research and directly to families of breast cancer patients in need. This was a very rewarding experience. I was so happy to see the breast cancer survivors being honored. At the end of the night, we calculated that we made just over $250. It was fulfilling to know that the money made was donated to a good cause.
